2007 rally feedback

hi folks just wanted to say yet another great event we had a great time all weekend. You are the best endurance event in the country and have a great atmosphere and so well organised that we will have to come back next year and try again and when any one asks me what is the best event there is only 1 answer AUDI SOUTH WEST ENDURANCE RALLY. so thanks to all your teams of marshals organisers and every happy friendly face involved with your event a great big thank you. all the best.
simon weir (car 15)

Many thanks to SHMC for an amazing event. First class organisation, first class forestry tests, and yet again superb competitor atmosphere that I just don't see in other motorsport disciplines. Rob and I got off to a good start lying 7th overall at the end of day 1 but a lack of handbrake on day two meant many 360 degree round cone elements became time consuming three point turns or muddy ditch moments. But despite that we had a great time and came home first 205 yet again in 11th overall. Can't wait for next year. All those peopole that said how good last years event was were absolutely right, it lived up to its reputation.
Mark Collings (Car 19)

I have to echo marks comments- I know Jamie Turner advised me to do this one- and glad we did. My only real gripe would be too many 360 round cones and too much mud on the outside of these junctions- meaning unless you had a very good handbrake you were going to get stuck at some point- which we did on several occassions. We took a gamble on using old tyres which was a mistake- they were wrecked after the first Portreath- and even slightly worn colways are like slicks on mud. Actually enjoyed the 2nd set of jogularities-(apart from the silly farmer). Anyone who wants to know what "Enduro" or "Endurance" is all about should certainly think about this for next year- A GREAT Challenge and a BIG WELL DONE to everyone who finished- and BIG RESPECT to the award winners. 'll post the TV program times in a few days when both the film crew and myself have recovered.
Andrew Glossop – (car 11)

BIG thanks to the SHMC team and all the marhsals many of whom we saw on both days. Was very pleased to see both Ian's were OK as the news we heard on the start line (we were nex car in) was not sounding good. 3rd at half-way and 5th o/a at the end - MEGA pleased doesn't come close. first time out in the Rover (thanks to the Turners for their work on the car).
Matt Endean – (Car 62)

A note from the winners – Mike Biss and Cath Woodman

Cath and I would like to thank Andy Ballantyne, all his team and all the marshals for putting on a superb event . We had heard rave reviews of the Audi South West event from last year and so decided to give it a go this time. The reports were all true and the selectifs and organisation were second to none. Thanks to Phil and Paul for the event long battle. If you haven't done the event before, watch Andy Glossop's Race & Rally UK programme when it comes on, to see what you missed. You'll want to enter next year.
Mike & Cath (Car 5)
P.S. The Dartmoor Pixie got back safely (if slowly) and has now taken up a spot in its new home. A bit of a trip hazard though!

Congrats to Mike and Cath on a superb victory. They didn't falter under the pressure (but I did). The Organisers of the Audi South West did a magnificent job - they have certainly raised the standard of Endurance Road Rallying to a new level. Superb weather helped but with 39 Selectifs (inc 60 miles in the forests) and 4 Regularities I daren't think how many people were involved to give us a great weekend. As Ian says above - there were Paramedics and recovery crews at strategic positions, marshals everywhere, equipment and radio crews - the list is endless. Add in the Devon hospitality and a Start/Finish venue with a bar open till 2 am and I hope you start to get the picture.
Paul Robinson – (Car 4)

Thanx to all the organisors and marshalls for a great weekend, really enjoyed the event. The selectifs were cracking especially portreath and the ones around Halwill junction, really enjoyed them. I couldn't believe how friendly everyone was, the atmosphere was the best part in my book

with everyone just having a brill time and think i have made quite a few new friends. Think i might be hooked on this endurance thing and might see you all in wales in april.
James (car 34)

Fabulous event - superbly organised, cracking tests, wonderful hospitality, great atmosphere......... Many thanks to Andrew, Andy, Roger and the rest of the team for an memorable weekend.
Roy & Tim (Car 9)

Thoroughly enjoyed our first go at Endurance rallying, a few mistakes from me recording codeboards and on the jogularity meant we lost a few silly minutes, but the forestry was top class. The cameraderie on the event amazed me, for example we stopped to change a puncture after Largin on Saturday night and every competitor that went past us stopped and asked if we were ok! Very sociable and friendly as well, with many tales being told at each rest halt and in the bar in the evening! Best get saving for the next one now!
Nic Jones – Car 42

Huge congrats to the formal management team (Andrew, Andy B, results guys etc) and all the other helpers - great organisation and there seemed to be no shortage of marshals, which is a great logistic success. We had an excellent time; 5th o/a on Portreath 1 was nice (Rich seemed to be on a mission - which didn't work too well on Portreath 2 with a half spin right at the end - interested in the pics Ian) - IF ONLY we hadn't driven into the ruts on S1.10 and lost just under 11 minutes - BUT LUCKILY when we spun on an open 45 left on Saturday and scraped the front along the left hand bank, the wheels didn't dig in and we stayed upright. Commiserations to Phil H on getting lost in Portreath - a little local knowledge helped in finding that cone. Thanks again all....
Martin and Rich (car 21)

Well what a weekend! Great fun and the little Subaru Justy did us grand. Well done to car 42 for getting the class win from us. Big thanks to all involved marshals, set up crews and anyone else who did their bit. A massive thanks must also go to Roger and crew who put it all together over the last 12 months and of course mother nature for being so kind with the weather it was the first dry spell for about 3 weeks! And for those of you that mocked the £50 justy, you dont have to spend a fortune to have fun!!
Matt Power – Car 38

Well done to Mike and Cath, a great result. Commiserations to Phil and Paul, who looked devasted at the break having just got lost on Portreath. Just imagine how fast Phil will be when he gets his proper car finished (Nova!). Top Job from South Hams, faultless as always. Can we come back next year?
Andrew Lees – Car 8

I'd just to echo all the comments above! A fantastic but tiring couple of days, which pushed both car and competitors to the ragged edge. I think I'm going to buy some anti panic sunglasses for next year. Thanks to EVERYONE - organisors and competitors - for such a great event.
Clive - Car 66 (green Rover wedge)

Hi, We competed on last weekend’s endurance rally and just wanted to say thanks. We are relatively novice entrants (4th rally) and we felt your event was brilliant and obviously reflects all the hard work that must have gone into its organisation. It ran superbly. The main reason for writing is that we found all the organising team very helpful, much more so than on the previous events we have done. This really makes all the difference when you are inexperienced. We have been getting a lot of penalties and up to now people have been reluctant to explain things to us, after a while it becomes disheartening because you have no idea how or why you went wrong, and therefore cannot improve. Having come to the sport late (about 30 years too late) we don’t expect to win or anything and we are doing it strictly for the fun, but, we do want to feel that we have done as well as we possibly can. We would especially like to thank Andy Ballantyne who went out of his way to explain things to us and made sure we were up to speed with what we should know. We had a ball and will be back next year for more. We came away with our best result so far but much more importantly, we feel we made real progress with some of the issues that we have had problems with. This has really given us a boost; our only regret is that we live too far away to join your club!
Kim Eaton, Clive Martin from Leicester & Nottingham (Car 48)

As service crews are not allowed so if you are competing why not ask your friends to help out?

As you can gather from the above you really will be appreciated!
