The HALVANA PLANTATION
Gravel Sprint 2006

8 October 2006

CANCELLED - Sat. 30 September 2006

It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you that the above event has been cancelled. As entries closed this morning, we had only received support from 13 competitors, and when faced with costs of over £5,000 to stage the event, it is not a viable prospect.

For four years we have been staging forest events in the South West, with fantastic support from various sponsors, but we have seen entry levels steadily declining. Since none of the forest events we have staged have ever even covered their costs, the time maybe has come to draw the line, since the Club can only be prepared to lose so much money. This, coupled with the amount of time and effort being put into the South West Endurance and Historic Rally, sponsored by Audi South West, means that it is unlikely that we will be promoting another loose surface stage rally in the near future.

We thank you for your support for this event, and on previous events we have run, and trust that you will continue to support loose surface stage rallying in the South West.

Yours sincerely,

Simon Fowler
Clerk of the Course

Welcome to our third running of a gravel sprint. After some meaningful talks with the forest enterprise, and following the success of previous events, we have secured the use of Halvana plantation again, which is a prime forest in North Cornwall.

I am delighted that we have the continued support of Andrew Orchard, and would like to express our thanks to Andrew.  We would also like to thank Adrian Brown who will also be suporting the event. With this joint support we have been able to keep the entry fee down, as one of our aims is to encourage new competitors to stage rallying and we see this as a stepping stone for the new competitor to taste the excitement of the sport, also giving the more experienced competitor a competitive days sport, so if you want to test for Wales Rally GB, let your mate drive because he says he's better or want a good laugh.

If you have any doubt about how the event will operate, please give me a ring and I will be please to talk you through it.

So do not hesitate about entering - get your entry in early and secure your place on the entry list.
