Southwest Clubman Rally Challenge 2012

PCS

South Hams Motor Club is delighted to have teamed up with Plymouth based Printcopyscan to promote the 2012 South West Clubman Rally Challenge.  They will organise a six round series covering five of the friendliest rallies in the South west designed with the clubman in mind.

Based in Plymouth, Director of Printcopyscan and regular competitor to south west events, Adrian Brown was joint winner of the series last year, he said: “I’m delighted at supporting a challenge to grow our sport and get as many new faces competing.

“Because it’s class based, anyone from any class has the potential to walk away with honours without the cost of travelling long distances - it’s ideal for competitors who have limited budgets but want to be involved in a championship.

“We supply the hardware and software, our usual type of clients are schools, solicitors and accountants basically any organisation that has a requirement to print copy and scan.

“We also help local motor clubs with all their print, copy and scanning needs, they all work very hard to provide well-run, good quality events.”

The first round is the Kynaston Auto Services stages rally at Smeatharpe in February and new to the Calendar is the Boconnoc stages in Cornwall. Also, for 2012 competitors will be awarded points for each day they compete on at the TSH stages at Portreath in May, that’s to enable those who retire on the event a chance to gain some points and not waste an entire weekend.

Challenge Organiser Andy Ballantyne said: “It’s the fourth year South Hams motor club has run the challenge which goes from strength-to-strength. “Last year we had a record 22 club members take part proving that they want a low cost but fun championship.”

“With a few tweeks we hope to provide a level for genuine club competitors, before making the step-up to a regional or national level.”

2012 News

Welcome to a new season and a new year and hopefully a very competitive one in the rally challenge. I’m delighted that so many have registered this early on – In the challenge regs there is still any opportunity for people who contested the Kynaston Auto services stages to claim back dated points so the below is only provisional until the next round.

Bullwell Trailer Solutions Boconnoc Motorsport Carnival: July 29th

That’s the date for your diary, 5 clubs have combined to bring you a new venue and a new type of rally. It’ll be like the old Cricket St Thomas rally 14 stages between 1 and 3 miles in length. Competitors will wait at one end for the field to go through before the stages are reversed. If you want to impress sponsors or let service crews watch the rally this has to be the event for you. It’ll be unique and different – the long term plan is to create a Lurgen Park style event – There’s a brilliant moorland type section with a steep windy road with crests and rises to unsettle the car, hairpins like you were in Ireland or driving those Devon roads!! What it lacks in length in certainly has in character.

There are 40 entries on offer entry fee has yet to be finalised but is likely to be around £175:00-£195:00 – to reserve your entry go online to www.boconnocmotorsport.co.uk Or contact me andy.ballantyne@btopenworld.com
