Southwest Endurance Rally

March 7 - 9, 2008

Welcome to the third South West Endurance Rally, which takes place over the weekend of Friday 7th – Sunday 9th March 2008.  You can read all about the inaugural 2006 rally in Classics Monthly. We are pleased to announce that It is the second round of the Enduro 2008 Road Rally Championship.

After the enormous success of the first two events, together with the positive feedback from competitors, we have put together a route similar to previous years , but with a few tweeks…so it will be a tough and demanding rally for crews and it will be essential that you work as a team but the ultimate goal is that you have FUN competing.

NEW FOR 2008 - For Beginners!!

The rally which is based on the successful Endurance Rally 1400cc formula also has a "Beginners" event for those who have never entered this type of rally - competition is on Saturday only. A 250 mile route with approx 70 competitive miles at approximately 18 off-road venues is on offer.

Scroll down for a great video clip taster of Endurance Rallying!!

Starting at mid-day on Friday from the Devon market town of Newton Abbot the 500 mile route takes a scenic tour of Devon before moving into Cornwall with overnight halt and Finish in Plymouth. On offer are around 40 selectifs - mostly forest based, with short regularity sections both days. Amounting to approximately 120 competitive offroad miles crews will be treated to some of the country's best scenery.

Those who have entered before will know that the forests we use are in superb condition - having only been used a few times in the last 20 years!

So as you can see we are not putting together a sprint event, but an endurance event similar to those historically held in the South West.

To make all this happen we are pleased to renew our partnership with AudiSouthWest and with their continued help, in addition to the support they have given us in the past, we have a platform to organise this event.

We have struck a deal with Novotel (Plymouth) for the accommodation but if you do not wish to stay there you are free to choose and organise accommodation yourselves.  (Novotel have promissed us that the bar will remain open until 2am for the post-event debriefing!)

The awards presentation will be held at the Novotel after breakfast on Sunday at 10am.

Looking towards a sustainable future the club has included five pounds in the entry fee in line with its Environmental Statement. This will go towards the cost of a tree planting programme taking place in the South Hams.  Based on a 1.4litre petrol engined “supermini”, the Carbon Footprint (2006) calculator has estimated that over the cumulative 28,000 miles driven in this event, 7000kg of carbon dioxide will be emitted. To offset these emissions, deciduous native trees will be planted by the members of the motor club with additional consideration to local landscape and wildlife to increase environmental value.  The 2007 rally raised £315 for the tree planting programme.

We look forward to receiving your entry but if you are unable to enter the event please come along and marshal and we will make you very welcome what ever you decide.
