From the desk of Andy Ballantyne:
Devon Classic Rally 2018
Unfortunately, due to several separate issues we are having to postpone this year’s event which was scheduled for the last weekend in September.
1.) The date does not work any more with 5 other events daylight historic events scheduled either for the same or prior weekend.
2.) A lack of helpers/organisers mainly due to Rally Wales GB moving to the October date has put an unnecessary burden on a small band of volunteers.
3.) My job role has changed and therefore I am currently unable to put the time and effort into organising and visiting landowners in a timescale that I can put on a quality event.
I hope you understand the reasoning for making this decision now, as we are supposed to have organised hotel rooms and should have come up with a provisional route.
We are hopeful of securing a new date perhaps in March time in 2019 where the calendar is less crowded.
If you know of anyone willing to help organise the event, then please get in contact using web@shmc.co.uk
Finally, thank you for your support and I hope to see you competing in the near future.
For novices/beginners out there my email/phone is always available if you need/want any helpful tips or hints coping with regularities.
Kind regards,
Andy Ballantyne - Clerk of the Course

Following on from last year's "Classic" the HRCR are once again supporting South Hams Motor Club with this event. We are also hosting a round of the 2017 HRCR Hagerty Insurance Clubmans Road Rally Championship, and the HRCR Premier Rally Championship 2017, which is the "Nat.B Devon Classic" - (1 day). Scroll down for details.
The third year running this event, Clerk of the Course Andy Ballantyne has travelled throughout the maze of lanes in his home county of Devon to bring us one of the highlights on the calendar. You will see some stunning scenery along the 250-mile route with easy ‘jogularity’ type instructions for the eight regularities with special tests and some of the finest hostelries along the route.
It’s the perfect event for complete beginners in a relaxed atmosphere to learn from some of the best navigators on how to cope with all the goings on of a rally. Competitors will be able to arrive on Friday night to relax before a late start on Saturday, which will see crews head east to Smeatharpe via the old A30 and lanes which have white lines going down the middle.
Sunday: will head north to Tiverton and South Molton before heading home via Okehampton and skirting the sides of Dartmoor before heading back to Exeter. There is no need to apply for licences or motor club membership in this Clubman’s permit event. For the third year in a row the entry fee has been kept to £495.00, which includes two night’s bed and breakfast at the Hampton Hilton Hotel next to Exeter airport.
There will no whites, no long way round triangles BUT there could be some top quality asphalt roads on private land.
Competitor’s Comments from last year:

Great route great venues for coffee and lunch and dinner. Right balance of tests and Regularities."..... As always we need a lot of helpers to make sure the rally runs smoothly - no experience necessary - if you can offer any help on the event (or before) please get in touch. We have various controls that need manning during 10-3pm on both Saturday and Sunday in the Exeter/Okehampton area.
